Vittorio Imbriani
Vittorio Imbriani (Naples 1840 – 1886) spent his youth in exile with his father Paolo Emilio. He followed the teaching of F. De Sanctis in Zurich and completed his studies in Berlin. He volunteered in 1859, was a member of Garibaldi’s troops in 1866 and was taken prisoner at Bezzecca. Like many other intellectuals and politicians of the time, he converted to the monarchy and he taught Italian and German literature in Naples. He was a talented, eccentric journalist and author, as well as an art critic and folklorist.
He is remembered above all for the novel God save us from the Orsenigos (1876), a stinging satire on the Italian nobility.
